The ultimate goal of the Golden Partnership is to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics. Over the past 2 years, Wal*Mart management, associates and vendors have raised $1,350,000 for Special Olympics athletes in the state of California. Every dollar raised will benefit the athletes of Special Olympics. Here are some of the wonderful and fun ideas, Wal*Mart Associates have used in the past 2 years.
- Golf for the Gold Classic
- Pie throwing contests
- BBQs/Hot Dog Sales
- Raffles (at Golf Tournament)
- Dunk Booths
- Car washes
- Mini-golf in parking lot
- Mini Olympics using Wal*Mart products
- Sporting events such as free throw contests, soccer skills contests etc.
- Games of chance such as fishing for prizes out of a kids swimming pool

Since 2006 , Walmart employees across California have raised more than $1,350,000 for the athletes of Special Olympics. The Golden Partnership between Special Olympics and Wal-Mart have helped more than 2,700 athletes receive the benefits of health and fitness through sports in the local communities where Walmart exist. In 2008, the goal for the Golden Partnership Campaign is to raise $1 million additional dollars and support 2,000 more athletes.
What is Special Olympics?
Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected member of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offer children and adults with developmental disabilites year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports. In California alone, Special Olympics is serving 26,831 athletes and offers 23 sports. Special Olympics is FREE to the athletes and their families.
