What is Walmart Golf for the Gold Classic?

Walmart and Special Olympics Northern and Southern California have partnered to plan 16 Golf tournaments in 15 locations called the Golf for the Gold Classic. The tournaments will take place throughout the state of California on
Monday, October 13, 2008.

Since 2006 , Walmart employees across California have raised more than $1,350,000 for the athletes of Special Olympics. The Golden Partnership between Special Olympics and Wal-Mart have helped more than 2,700 athletes receive the benefits of health and fitness through sports in the local communities where Walmart exist. In 2008, the goal for the Golden Partnership Campaign is to raise $1 million additional dollars and support 2,000 more athletes.

What is Special Olympics?

Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected member of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offer children and adults with developmental disabilites year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports. In California alone, Special Olympics is serving 26,831 athletes and offers 23 sports. Special Olympics is FREE to the athletes and their families.
